Split Financial Instance 12 Years ago
Business has one oracle instance consisting of one set of book. Business need to separate this business into two oracle instance. Where each instance only contains the data for line of business and they do not want to change any process on both instances. They want same process on both instances for line of business.
NOTE: They have only one balancing segment value for both LOB. And It has one OU for both major business groups.

When come to data cleaning on both instances what is best approach in financials modules. (GL, AP, PO, INV) For GL Balance and open transactions in AP and PO where they setting on different instance.

Thank You..

So you have one oracle instance.
You have one set of books.
You have one balancing segment value.
You have one operating unit.
But you have two line of businesses.
Question 1, how are the two line of businesses seggregated? (you have one BSV).
Question 2, where are you doing the cleaning you are referring? are you cloning one instance into two and then doing the cleaning?
The situation is not very clear from what you have expressed. Please clarify the scenario by providing all necessary information e.g. why are you splitting? how are you splitting? how are LOB representated in Oracle. Thanks.

Hi,

You are right!!

But Client have major two businesses Residence and Commercial (LOB), last more than 15 years they running on Oracle of one instance with single SOB and BSV. Now here Commercial group is merging with another company. So they want separate instance for both LOB before merge. Already client have approach for split instance in Residence and Commercial. So existing instance going for Residence and new instance for Commercial. Approach is here.

1. They doing clone.
2. Find out impact interface and custom object for separate business.
3. Required and Configure New setup. ( e.g. New Bank A/C, Credit Card)
4. Data Cleanup ( 15+ years)

So far I understand and we are find out some major interface and custom object on high process level. Now here, I want to understand on some deep level overview finance side. Suppose
Open Invoice and Payment Processing on AP side. Here is some specific question regarding some during cutover phase.

1. How to identify transaction for Resi and commercial? (Key Attribute)
2. Handle Prepayment, schedule payment, manual hold etc?
3. AP Liability, Aging balance, GL Balance, open purchase order, Inventory Item balance, on hand quantity ?

Because before go live they want as it as process and separate trail balance sheet on both instance.

Then parallel working on cleaning process of historical data.

This is overview, I know very hard to understand without knowing anything come up with solutions.
But put some generic idea and pointing some area that are impacted during cutover phase and handling open transaction?

Thank You for your valuable time !!!

You are right, it is very hard to grasp what exactly is going on with your client. I would have interrogated more to find out details but keep in mind the focus of this forum is to assist members in questions and confusions related to the topics covered in the lessons. I dont mind discussing real scenarios as long as the topic of discussion is within the scope.
From what I see in your situation is that you have data of two line od businesses mixed together within one BSV. What you want to do is split one ledger (one BSV) into two. Looks like a daunting task. Easier of the two solutions seems to be fresh implementation+data migration (For both line of business) as oppose to cloning + removing the data for the other line of business. If you are going with option 2 then one way of doing the cleanup would be to pass adjustment entries to nullify the portion that belongs to the other line of business. These adjustment entries need to be go in all the previous months till the beginning of time.
