I suggested the following in your situation:
Install VM software direclty on C
Create Virtual Machine on external hard disk
All the remaining steps remain the same.

The system will be slightly slower as it is running of the external drive but still you should be able to use it.

Linux installation and Oracle installation steps would remain the same as from inside the virtual machine it is seemless weather your virtual machine is running off C or D.
