Child Parent relationships and Rollup Group 14 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
Please Hasan,
could you tell me the meaning or implications of Child Parent relationships and Rollup Group whilst creating a Chart of Account structure, Value Sets and Segment Values, Hierarchies and Value Hierarchy. I have followed your tutorials and created a working ledger but do not understand the above concepts. I am worried I would not be able to comprehensive Oracle Applications implementation if I do not grasp these concepts. Thank you.

Topics next in line for GL are summary accounts, rollup groups and parent accounts. All are related topics.
In short a parent value is a value that consists of one or more child values.
Example: Parent value AA consists of child values 1000,1001,1002
Posting cannot take place at parent values. For example you cannot use AA on enter journals screen.
Rollup groups are simply groups of parents values.
Example:
Parent value AA (All Asset) consists of child values 1000,1001,1002
Parent value AL (All Liabilities) consists of child values 2000,2001,2002
Rollup Group: BA (Balance Sheet Accounts) consists of parent values AA and AL.
Rollup Groups are used in creating summary accounts.
Hopefully these concepts will be a lot clear after watching upcoming GL videos.

Hi Hasan,
Thanks for the explanation. I look forward to watching those videos when they become available.
My understanding from this point is that, the following are not part of the mandatory setup settings during Oracle GL implementation; they are rather optional, and therefore, can be implementaed after creating GL ledger:
*Summary Accounts
*Rollup Groups
*Parent and Child Accounts
Please, tell me if my understanding is correct.
Thank again,
Gavrobere

Sorry, I forgot to also ask whether the setting of the Value Sets Security setting can be changed after creating GL ledger(ie. after the ledger has been put to use) from NO security to either Hierarchical or Non Hierarchical? I mean, is this part something we need to get right from the outset during implementation of GL?
Thank you Hasan.

Yes that is true. These could be setup later on, if need arise.
But if the need is there since the beginning then they are setup as part of the first round of configuration. Each client's requirement is different.

What would be the impact or behaviour of the GL application data from the user's point of view whether the Value Set Security Type is set to NO
Security, or to Hierarchical, or to Non Hierarchical. Please, example as usual would do me! Thank you Hasan.

Lets say we have these values in Company Value Set:
01
02
03
P1 (01,02)
P1 is a parent containing children 01 and 02.
Suppose you have defined a security rule RULE1 such that value P1 cannot be used.
This RULE1 is assigned to the responsibility used by USER1.
If security is not enabled then USER 1 can use all values 01,02,03 and P1.
If security is enabled as hierarchical then USER 1 can only use value 01.
If security is enabled as non-hierarchical then USER 1 can use values 01,02, and 03.
