R12 Install...internet access from Linux 12 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi. I cannot access the internet from within the VM Server in Oracle Linux.

When invoking Konqueror, the following error is produced: 'An error occured while loading www.handsonerp.com: Unknown Host. I can't access any internet sites at all.
I can use the internet successfully within my host Vista.
Is it meant to be working without any set up ?
The network for the VM Server is the default 'Bridged'. The output of /usr/sbin/system-config-network is attached.
IPConfig from the host machine is:
Connection-specific
DNS Suffix . : home
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::69d1:ff32:ab19:d6e9%9
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.65
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

Enter manual configuration.

Statically set IP addresses

Address: If router's IP is 192.168.1.1, then choose any IP here in this format: 192.168.1.x e.g. 192.168.1.50
Subnet mask; 255.255.255.0
Default gateay address: Enter the IP of your router e.g. 192.168.1.1

Hi. I tried those settings (attached) and it didn't work.
The ethernet cable is working fine. Also I could not ping
the gateway or host computer from within Linux. In case it
makes a difference, my VM server is located on the C: drive
and the Virtual Machines directory is located on an external
E: drive.
I have also tried to ping the Virtual Machine and the Host
Machine but nothing is reaching. I have also switched off the firewall but that had no effect.

I have noticed a message within the VMWare Infrastructure
Web Access page under the Events tab which states:

'Message from nadim-PC: The network bridge on device vmnet0
is not running. The virtual machine will not be able to
communicate with the host or with other machines on your
network. Virtual device Ethernet0 will start disconnected.
']

How do you switch on the network bridge ?

To me it looks like your VM is trying to use eth1 network
card as oppose to eth0.
See if the following actions fix the problem.
1 Turn off your virtual machine
2 Go in your virtual machine settings and change the MAC address
(simply modify 1 or 2 characters)
3 Retart VM
4 At linux startup it will detect a new MAC address and will try to configure it
from scratch.
This might resolve your issue.
