Host not connecting to Guest 11 Years, 11 Months ago
After following installation instructions step by step, I completed the installation of the ebusiness suite on my laptop windows 7 OS. The problem is that I cannot connect from my browser to the apps on the virtual machine. I cannot ping the static ip of the guest from the host. I cannot ping the linux.server from the host. I will appreciate immediate help....Justus

Were post-installation check ok or did you get any errors?
Could you launch the login page from linux browser? http://linux.server:8000

If the answer to the above two questions are yes then we can go to the next question:

Are you using the router?
What kind of network you have created?

If you are using the router then your network should be bridged otherwise it should be NAT.

If this setting is correct then move on to the next question:

Can you browse internet from linux?

If not then please paste the screenshot of your linux network configuration.

I am NOT using the router
I created Bridged Adapter

Your network type is the issue.
I have explained that in my videos that bridge will only work with the router. You have to use NAT if you do not have a router.
Please fix that by changing the networking type of your VM after bringing it down. Also fix the linux network setting and Window hosts file accordingly.

Thanks for your response. I am not a really tech heavy guy...but I can follow your instructions in order to fix this.
1. I have brought my virtual machine down
2. Do I use Host Only or NAT?
3. If I use NAT...what changes do i need to make in the linux network setting and windows host file?
Thanks for your support.

Do this:
1- Bring VM down
2- Change network type to NAT
3- Bring VM up.
4- Now go to the network tool as root (the one shown in videos, where you put the static IP).
Change the IP back to dynamic. If you are confused about this part, upload the image of the settings, I will tell you what to do. It is pretty straight forward.
Close the network tool.
5- Simply reboot your VM.
6- When VM wakes up run ifconfig command and note down the IP address.
7- Go back to the network tool and put this IP as your static IP.
8- Reboot VM again.
9- Open up your Windows host file as Administrator (as shown in videos).
Change the IP address specified there againt linux.server to this new IP.

That is it. Now you should be able to ping linux from windows as linux.server

Two things:
1- I apologize I gave you the wrong network type. If you dont have a router then you should be using Host-Only (not NAT). I made a mistake while replying to your earlier post. Please redo the process of changing the network setup to Host-Only. All steps would remain the same except for the network type (Host-Only).
2- I want you to go through this video and understand the linux networking. I have clearly explained here which type to use if you dont have a router. Also I have explained NAT is not an option. Please go this 12 minutes video so that you know what you are doing and why you are doing it. Thanks
