Hi Ravi,
Which flavour of VMWare you are using?
Could you please upload the screen shot of the issue?

hmm, first check your hardrive file system format, if it is fat32 then u cannot create file larger than 4 gb
u need to convert ur hardisk to NTFS format , use 'partition magic'
to convert to ntfs without loosing data
or else there is an option in vmware to split files or something like that google it

What is the size of the hard disk you have specified while creating the virtual machine?

My external drive file system was indeed FAT32. So, I slide the data to proper boundry using BOOTIT NG, a shareware software, Then I converted file system to NTFS.
I used CONVERT <drive>: FS\NTFS
After that I was able to create virtual machine. Thanks everyone for helping me.

Hi Swarup, I think Virtual Disk Manager software can let you change the disk alocation. I am new to this virtualization.
