Anbody installed R12 on Mac? 12 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
Hi All,
I am trying to install Oracle R12 on Mac. I went through the steps on the tutorial and got stuck at choosing VMware Server as this is available only for Windows or Linux. So, I cannot install it on Mac. I downloaded Oracle Vitualization box. Does it help? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Ram

My videos will only show you how to install Oracle R12 on Windows via VM Ware. If you can install any virtualization software on Mac where you can install Oracle Enter Linux then you are laughing. Once you have Oracle Enterprise Linux installed then you can follow my videos from that point onwards. Also make sure you Mac machine has enough RAM and CPU power. Dual core is recommended so that 1 CPU could be dedicated for VM and the other one for the host system. 4 GB Ram is recommded so that you can dedicated 2 GB to Linux server.

Thank you for the response. My Mac has 12 GB RAM with 1 TB HD space and runs on Intel Core i5 (4 cores). I think my mac is good enough with the recommended system requirements. I would like to go with the below configuration:
1) 2 CPUs for VM and 2 for the OS X Lion
2) 6 GB RAM dedicated for Linux
But my question now is on the Oracle Apps Client, I know I cannot access oracle Apps from my Mac Lion (host OS). Does Enterprise Linux allow me to access the Oracle Apps front end? Let me know how to access Oracle Apps front end with the limitations i have with my host OS?
Thanks in advance,
Ram

Hi Hasan,
Thank you for your videos. By following them and googling the four issues I hit, I could finally install R12 on Mac (host OS) successfully using Oracle Virtualization box w/Oracle Enterprise Linux 32-bit V4 Update 8. I am able to connect to Apps in Linux using Firefox web browser. Though I am happy that i could install it, i found it very slow when i move from one screen to another. How can I access the Apps (http:linux.server:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin) from my Mac, the host OS? Can I install Windows on my virtualization box and access R12 from there?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ram

1)
Looks like you can use Safari browser on Mac to connect to Oracle. See metalink note ID 389422.1. Relevant portion is attached.
2) You can use any other Window based computer to connect to your linux server running on virtual machine.
3) You can create another virtual machine and install windows on it. Use that to connect to your linux server. However this will be slow as well. File Attachment: File Name: mac.zipFile Size: 6030

Hi Hasan,
Thank you for your response. But I could not connect to Oracle Apps from Safari browser though i followed the metalink given. Anyway, I am good as i am able to connect to oracle Apps from Linux using Firefox browser.
When i am trying to run concurrent programs in Payables following your videos, the system threw an error saying "you don't have any operating unit available". I noticed that you were using Vision Instance while you were running the concurrent report. But I have only PROD instance installed. Now, I want to install Vision instance along with my PROD instance in order to be able to run the concurrent requests.
Now my question is, Can I install Vision Instance on the same node as my PROD is installed?
Are there any special steps that I should follow in my scenario?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Ram

The training program is based on PROD . I do not recommend using VISION at all. I might have created few demos on VISION but in order to follow the training you are suppose to use PROD. VISION does not give you good practice as it comes seeded with lots of objects that you are suppose to create from scratch in real implemenations.

If you really have to install another instance then how about creating another VM. That way you can run one at a time if you have limited resources. Otherwise you can start both machines at the same time. Dont forgot to take the snapshot of your current VM.

Thank you for your inputs. They're very helpful. I am following your videos, so I will stick with PROD instance. I will try to install Vision Instance on a different VM. As i am allocating 6GB RAM for both the VMs, i will make sure i will open only one of them at a time. I will take the snapshot of my current VM.
Thank you again for your suggestions.

Hi Hasan,
I had created another VM for the same Linux 32-bit and installed R12 Vision instance successfully. I will use just one of them at a time. I am so happy i get to choose whichever instance i need depending on what i am learning. Thank you for your valuable inputs.
Thanks,
Ram

Good to know. You should create a start up script so that when you turn on your VM machine all services start automatically.

That's a good idea. I will set up the start up script to run the services. I have been doing this manually every time i login to the VM.
Thanks,

Hi Ram,
It's great that you are able to install R12 on Macmini. I have late 2009 Macmini with 4GB memory. Do you think is it worth(use without performance issues) for me to do what you did? I appreciate your help.

HI Hari,
I am not sure if 4GB is sufficient. By the way, I installed it on my iMac with 12 GB RAM and i5 quad-core.
I would recommend you to upgrade your RAM size to at least 8 GB. You can buy 8 GB RAM (2*4GB) from Amazon for $53. I am sure you will not experience any performance issues if you go with 8 GB.
I had the below configuration with my installation:
1) 2 CPUs for VM and 2 for the OS X Lion
2) 6 GB RAM dedicated for Linux

Hi Ram, Thank for your advice on memory upgrade (I will do that). In the mean while I installed Oracle virtual box (looks like it is a successful installation) and I got stuck in pointing the virtual box to the bootable Oracle Linux iso file. Can you please help me on where you downloaded bootable Oracle Enterprise Linux 32-bit V4?
I try to follow your footsteps on exact versions and etc so that I will face less issues. Any help will be much appreciated.

I downloaded from edelivery.oracle.com as per Hasan Mir's videos. I had downloaded the latest version of Virtual Box which is 4.1.6. I downloaded Linux V4 Update 8. I heard this is the stable version for R12. So, go with that and you should be fine. I had installed Linux V6 first and later found out that it is not certified with R12. So, I had to remove V6 VM and went with V4 Update 8.

Any virtualization solution that will allow you to install Oracle Linux will do the job.
In my installation videos we are installing following layers:
Windows->VMWare->Oracle Liux->Oracle EBS
On Mac you can do the samething. I have not done it personally though but I dont see any issues theoritically:
MAC->(Virtualization Solution)->Oracle Liux->Oracle EBS
