Security for more than one Co. in one ledger 14 Years, 1 Month ago
Hello Hasan,

You had briefly mentioned that we can still have companies in one ledger
and Ledger 1 data may not be seen by users of ledger2 and vice versa.
How can we achive that?

You also mentioned that in case 3 c's are different between companies
then they have to have a seperate Ledger. But as far as I know if your
currency is different you can still have one primary ledger and use the
secondary ledger for the other company with a different currency.

Am I correct?

Thanks,

AS

Hi Arun,
I thing you are misusing the jargon. I can remember Hasan saying different companies (Balancing Segments) with the same 3Cs and the same Accounting Method can be put in the Ledger if data segragation is not an issue. If data segragation is an issues, you can put even companies (Balancing Segments) in different ledgers. Hasan has also said that, under Oracle Applications R12, even if data segragation is an issue, different companies (Balancing Segments) with the same 3Cs and same Accounting Method can still be put in the same Ledger whereby security available security features (Responsibilities) can be used to prevent Users of a particular company seeing the data of another company.
Secondary ledger (Oracle R12) or SOB (Oracle 11i) is completely another topic. If you have a company like Mcdonalds USA (parent company) and Mcdonalds United Kingdom (subsidiary), then you can make Mcdonalds United Kingdom financial transactions or account balances converted into US Dollars (the parent company's currency) using a conversion type and rate, through a Secondary Ledger (Oracle R12) or Secondary SOB (Oracle 11i) with the same COA, Calendar, but UK Pounds Sterling for the secondary ledger, attached to the primary Ledger.
This feature in Oracle Financials is called Multi Currency Reporting. It helps to see the same transactions and balances in the functional currency , into a different currency (that is the reporting currency). It is purely for reporting purposes.
Please, Hasan correct me if I am wrong!

I think Hasan will be finishing Mass Allocations, then staring Translations, Conversions, Revaluations, Consolidations, InterCompany Segment and Transactions, Multi Currency Reporting, and finally, Reports/Listings and Period End Processes. And, by the time the Football World Cup start in June this year,Hasan you have finished with all the General Ledger topics. I could be dreaming! Am I, Hasan?

Answer to question 1 is: security rule, data access set.
Answer to question 2 is wait for the video on "Secondary Ledger". Your concept of secondary ledger is not correct. In short secondary ledger is simply a representation of a primary ledger in different Cs. Details will be covered in video.

Hello Hasan,

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on answer 1?
