Payments bank account, and Receipts bank account 12 Years, 4 Months ago
Hello

My client has two bank accounts. One for payments, and one for receipts

In their setup, I have noticed the following.

For the payment bank account, under cash GL account, they have 01.2000.00, where 2000 is the AP account (liability)

The same story for receipts. For cash GL account, they have 01.3000.00, where 3000 is the AR account (asset)

What is the reason for this? I thought the cash GL account, for the bank account, should always point to a cash account?

I.e, it should be 01.1000.00 for both, where 1000 is 'cash' (asset)?

Thanks

I cannot say anything on behalf of your client. You should be asking them this question.
In a normal setup the Cash GL account associated with the bank account is always an asset account. It sometimes is referred to as Cash and sometimes as Bank. The balance in this Cash GL account should ideally be the same as the real ending balance in your bank account (and hence the Cash Management reconciliation).
