RW-00000 error during Database Node Configuration. 11 Years, 11 Months ago
i am getting the following errow message at the Database Node Configuration or the installation process...

RW-00000: Unable to write to the following directory. Please check permissions.

I changed my Base directory to /home/Karikoga10/PROD and my home directory is /home/Karikoga10.

I think the problem is the fact that the PROD folder does not exist in the home directory. Should this directory be automatically created during installation or should I create it prio to running installation wizard.

Please help...

Are you running the installaton as Karikoga user?
I am assuming Karikoga has full priviledges on this folder. Verify that please.
No the folder PROD does not have to be created in advance. It is automatically created by rapidwiz.
For some reason I think this error could be due to host name settings.
To test my hypothesis you can manually create a PROD folder in your home and rerun the rapidwiz. It will fail eventually in the pre-installation test. It will give you strange errors like disk space etc (even though you will have disk space). If it does not fail then well and good.
Next step after that would be to verify your host settings.
What was the host name and domain name you specified while running the Linux installer?
Did you place the entry in your /etc/hosts file?

Re:RW-00000 error during Database Node Configuration. 11 Years, 11 Months ago
127.0.0.1 linux.server linux
127.0.0.1 Oracle.Server linux
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
.
.
when I run the host name command this is what I get...
.
[root@Oracle Rumbi]# hostname
Oracle.Server
[root@Oracle Rumbi]#
.
.

- the problem is when I put this as the host name during the Oracle installation I get an error at the hostname.
.
I only get success when I use linux and server as the hostname and domain even though these are not in my settings..
.
.
Given that we have to use the hostname (http://linux.server to launch the services, what hostname and domain should I use if I am installing both a fresh install and a vision install on to different virtual machines...
.
I tried linux1.server and Oracle.Server with no luck
.
.
Am I missing something?

Yes, this is a symptom of not entering proper host and domain name while installing the Linux operating system. During the installation you were asked to enter the host and domain name and you were suppose to enter linux.server.

Please fix your linux hostname settings before running rapid wiz.

How to Change Linux Host Name:

As root, open file /etc/sysconfig/network
Change entry HOSTNAME to linux.server
Reboot Linux
