Installation Question - Not enough internal disk 13 Years, 10 Months ago
|
|
Hello All, per the installation video, we need 200GB disk space to install the vision database.
I have a good dell desktop with quad processor and have only 150GB disk space, I do not know how to upgrade the internal harddrive, can I buy an external harddrive and install the Oracle R12 applications.
Please advise.

You can install Oracle on external drive. It might be little slower but most people say it is ok. I think you need more than 200GB as newer version of Oracle takes more space. I have put that as notes under the installation video. 300GB is a good bet. If you dont have a dual core CPU then it will be very slow. Ideally you dedicate 1CPU to your linux server. You should dedicate at least 2GB to your VM. Therefore you need 3 to 4GB overall RAM.

Thanks HandsOnErp.
I will buy the external drive, perform the install and will keep you posted.
BTW, my desktop already have 4GB RAM installed.

That is right too but i still got the same problem with my installation when i did it so as have been a computer technician for 12 years i did the following it it just work fine for me.
1. Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools click on system configuration, in the options box click on STARTUP and disable all startup. This will free a lot of your memory in use, most programs just run under while you really don;t need them. you will have to restart you computer for it to take effect.
2. Right click on your desktop and and click personalization and change change to Windows classic.
i did this and it work for me so try it too. GOOD LUCK n let me know if it work
