Re:More on FA 15 Years ago
If it is gonna take some time can u please explain the process of asstet conversion alone for now. The client bought a new company. So when bringing 1000's of asstets from legacy system through ADI what are the things should be considered. Some assets would be fully depriciated and some in the middle..so how to categorize and bring them to FA and can we change the depreciation method of these assets being depreciated differently in the legacy system. Plz explain the complete process.

Yes bobgally, there is lots to be covered. You question is very open ended one. Videos will be able to best address the "complete process". When? I cannot tell. Sorry.
If you can post more specific question then I will be more then happy to attempt it in the forum.
When you import assets into the system, for each asset you will bring in:
1)the cost (actual value at the time of acquisition)
2)accumulated depreciation (the depreciation that has happened to date)
The above two together will determine the net book value.
Also you will assign a depreciation method to the assets being imported. The depreciation method you attach will determine how the depreciation will take place going forward.
However it the business's responsibility that they assign legal depreciation method to the asset, if not the same as in legacy system. You just cannot change the method at your own will. Therefore, as a general rule you will keep the method same as in the legacy system. Before importing assets you will make sure all required methods exist in Oracle. If not then you will create them first. You can then create categories based on how many different groups of assets you have in terms of financial information including the depreciation method. Then you will import assets and assign proper categories to them. Categories defaults down the depreciation method to the assets. In exceptional cases you can override the method for assets.
