Effects on a change of Legal Entities 15 Years, 2 Months ago
I have a ledger with only one company (ABC USA), hence, the whole ledger had been registered as a Legal Entity. An operating unit had been defined and started to serve the legal entity.
Later on, it has been decided to split this company into two other companies, each one to be registered as a separate legal entity. My problem is the fact that these new legal entity definitions are taking place after the first legal entity definition and assignment were put into operation.
------
1) Do we first have to un-register the whole ledger as a legal entity before defining and assigning the new two companies as separate legal entities, and then attach them to the ledger?
2) What would be the implications of the fact that AP and AR invoices having previously been stamped by another legal entity (the previous definition)?
------
Please, address the issues and any other light you could make to the whole thing, in an even more comprehensible fashion.

Thank you in advance.

This is what I understood.
You defined the ledger LEDGER1.
You created one legal entity LE1.
You have one balancing segment value (BSV) 01 in your ledger.
You have attached LE1 to the ledger LEDGER1 however BSV 01 is not strictly tied to LE1.
You have one operating unit OU1 serving the legal entity LE1.
The company 01 is split into two companies, lets say 02 and 03.
You will create two BSVs in the system 02 and 03.
You can disable 01 if you do not want this BSV to be used in any transaction going forward.
You can create two new legal entites in the system LE2 and LE3.
Attach LE2 and LE3 to the ledger LEDGER1 as well.
Tie the BSV 02 with with LE2 and the BSV 03 to LE3. At this point you can tie BSV 01 to LE1, as there are other legal entties in the ledger as well and hence BSVs must be explicitly tied.
Now the whole ledger is not tied to one legal entity, instead it is tied to three.
You can create two new Operating Units OU2 and OU3 to serve LE2 and LE3.
An existing operating unit OU1 can also serve all legal entities.
This choice would depend on how many physical offices are there (whether data segregation is required for subledgers or not)

Hi Hasan,
Thank you very much for the elaborated explanation which is complete; I've fully got these re-implementation concerns.
Regards,
