                        | Order of Segments in a Chart of Account Structure 15 Years, 10 Months ago | |
                        | Could someone explain to me the difference in the following two Chart of Account Structures:
Company > Natural Account > Department

Company > Department > Natural Account.

 Thank you.

                        | Hi Gavro Bere,
There is no difference between them except the arrangement of segments in the structure.

 Functionally
 *************

The order in which users should key in the values will differ based on the arrangement.

 eg.

Company > Natural Account > Department

First they should key in Company, then natural account and then Department.

 Technically
 ************
Place where the data resides (ie. columns in table) may differ.

 eg.

 GL_CODE_COMBINATIONS table
 ********************

Company > Natural Account > Department
 SEG1	> SEG2	> SEG3

Company > Department > Natural Account

 SEG1	> SEG2	> SEG3

 Cheers!
 Shanmuga

                        | Shanguma has right pointed this out. The order would affect:How users would enter the combination
How reports would display the combination

Consultant would make the proposal. Client should make the final decision on the order.

                        | Bunch of thanks to both Raja and Hasan for the explanation, which have been greatly appreciated.
I was initially thinking this way:

 Company > Natural Account > Department ====è implies which department processed the journal (transaction);

Company > Department > Natural Account ===è implies, for example, which Department the goods are ordered for, or paid for the goods.

Now, I see, I am wrong. Both presentation are the same, functionally. Thank you again.
