About 8 months after large new implementation, our accountants would like to change some of the Accounts from Expense to Liability. As you can imagine many of the code combinations are already in use. Given the scenario, what is the best way to switch these accounts from Expense to Liability? We are trying to reuse the existing account numbers. Thanks! -green

You should disable this account and create a new one.
This way you will not face challenges when it comes down to reconciliing Financial Reports.

If you insist changing the account type then you can follow these steps:
1) Close the balance of expense account into retained earnings.
2) Change the type of the segment value from Expense to Liability.
3) Change the type of all combinations associated with this value, from Expense to Liability (or Run Segment Value Inheritance program)
4) Create another set of financial reports (Balance Sheet and Income Statement) to be used going forward. Take out this account from Income Statement and insert it into Balance Sheet.
