Cross Validatins Rule 9 Years, 9 Months ago
Cross validations rule restricts user to enter invalid code combinations in the system. When we apply new CV rules in the system we know that it will not going to affect the existing code combinations so my query is that lets say we are entering an invoice using a code combination as we know that new CVR will not affect the existing combinations and the combination I am using while entering an invoice in the system is an invalid combination according to the new cross validation rules but it is a valid combination according to the previous rules. So will system restrict the user if I will use that combination which is an invalid according to the new rules?

Please reply me urgently as it is creating some confusion.

To restrict the account code combination that are already transacted before the creation of cross validation rule rule: Run the Request ‘Cross –Validation Rule Violation Report’

This request lists all those account code combination that have already been transacted before the security rule was created .

To end date those account code combinations listed in the report, go to the GL accounts screen and end date the or can be end dated through ‘Cross –Validation Rule Violation Report’ by setting the ‘Disabe Combination’ to Yes

My query is still not answered. My query was that if I will use that combination which is according to the new CV rules is an invalid combination but according to the previous rule it is a valid combination. If I use that combination Will system restrict me or give any error?

If yes then in the video tutorial you said that the the new CV rule does not affect the existing combination.

When you enter new transactions in the system (e.g. journals), the system only validates them agaist "existing" combinations. The cross validation rules are only read by the system when it is time to create new combinations.
Lets say you have following combination in the system
001-10000-000
Lets say you enter a rule saying that the account 10000 cannot be used with company 001 any more.
Will system let you enter a journal with the following account?
001-10000-000
The answer is yes. Although the combination is in violation of the rules but it already exist.
Will system let you enter a journal with the following account?
001-10000-010 (note that the department is 010)
The answer is no. The combination does not exist in the system. As the system will try to create this combination, the cross validation rules will prevent it from doing that.
That is why after creating cv rules you must run Cross Validation Rules violation report. This report will let you disable all existing combinations that are in violation of Cross Validation Rules.
