One more note. I am using host-only option instead of bridge adapter since i will be using my laptop both at work and home

One possible reason could be that your openmotif rpm is not installed. Please post the output of following command (as root):

rpm -q openmotif

Re:Installation using Windows 7 OS 11 Years, 10 Months ago
On running the command this is the output

openmotif-2.2.2-4.el6.i686

The version does not seem to match with the package openmotif21-2.1.30-8.i386

Does this mean that I have to issue the --force command for installing this package too

Just a correction. The output should have read as
openmotif-2.3.3-4.el6.i686

This is the correct version. This is what you are suppose to see with rpm -q command.
Lets stop all services and restart them again and see if you could wake them up manually. The log file will give you the clue.
Are you sure your md5sum was ok?

Re:Installation using Windows 7 OS 11 Years, 10 Months ago
md5sum was ok. reinstalled begining yesterday and put the final Oracle EBS installation into process yesterday night.

Today morning voila, Oracle EBS is installed and running. The only difference I can mention where I was deviating from your steps is selecting more packages from the suite instead of going with what you said to pick the default. This time I did not select packages and went with the default. That could be the reason it worked.

I will now wait for you to post the next steps.

Once suggestion or request.

Would you explain in a video how to take a snapshot and install using the snapshot on another virtual box. I say this because I wanted to install it on my home machine without going through the entire process and it also will work as a back up for me.

Re:Installation using Windows 7 OS 11 Years, 10 Months ago
Was able to scale down the application per your video. Also started the services. I did not have to stop the services since I logged out of the system yesterday.

I configured the windows client by including the static IP address in the windows host file. Unfortunately Internet explorer is not connecting to EBS on the the guest (http://linux.server:8000/.

When I connect to EBS using firefox on the linux server, I can get into the EBS application.

Is there a different configuration on Windows 7. Also I am using host only option instead of bridge adapter option

Make sure you either turn off linux firewall or open the ports 8000 and 9000. Linux firewall could be blocking your access from outside.

I turned off linux firewall. I can now access Oracle EBS from Windows through Internet Explorer

The next step is to create an oracle user other than sysadmin

That is a great news.
Yes login as SYSADMIN/SYSADMIN and go to System Administrator responsibility.
Navigate to Security->Users->Define
Create a new user and assign it System Administrator as well. Also assign other responsibilities as needed like General Ledger Super User, Payables Manager, etc.

Done.

Would you be providing a video on the different user setups. Or is that a part of the GL, AR, AP, CM and FA modules?

Yes that is true. In each of the video sections AR, AP, etc we always start with assigning appropriate responsibility to our user first. This is the very first step that we need to do. At least for now you need to give yourself System Administrator responsibility.

Hassan

Can I take a snapshot of the completed installation and put it on another box without having to go through the complete installation. Can you explain what the process should be. I understand that I will have to do the linux configuration and also set up the hosts file on windows.

Re:Installation using Windows 7 OS 11 Years, 10 Months ago
Yes off course you can do that. That is one of the benefits of using virtualization software.

Cloning:
1- Install VirtualBox sofware on target machine.
2- If your virtual machine is runnning then shut it down.
3- Copy the source disk image to the VirtualBox VDI directory on the target host machine. The source disk image resides in the VirtualBox VDI directory.
On Windows hosts the standard path is C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\.VirtualBox\VDI).
4- Now you can register it with VirtualBox on the target host machine.
From the VirtualBox window select File→Virtual Disk Manager (Ctrl+D) menu command.
Press the Add button and select the copied disk image file.

Linux Network:
After cloning you need to reconfigure the linux networking setup. Simply change the IP address to something that is available. For example if your original VM is 192.168.2.14 then make the clone as 192.168.2.15. You only need to do this step if you will be running both machines at the same time.

Windows Setup:
Here you will have an issue if you are using one windows host to connect to both at the same time. If only one virtual machine will be up at one time then you are good. You dont need to do any changes. If not then every thing you connect you will have to make changes to the host file.

If you are connect to the target you will change the IP as:

192.168.2.15 linux.server

If you are connect to the source you will change the IP as:

192.168.2.14 linux.server

One way to by pass this issue is to change the host name for the target to something else e.g. linux2.
Then you can place the following lines on Window hosts file:

192.168.2.14 linux.server
192.168.2.15 linux2.server

You can now connect to both machines without changing the setup again and again.

How to Change Linux Host Name:

As root, open file /etc/sysconfig/network
Change entry HOSTNAME to linux2.server
Change entry in /etc/hosts to linux2.server
Reboot Linux

Just want to add the option of changing the hostname to linux2 would also involve changing Oracle Apps configuration via System Administrator and rerunning autoconfig. It will be a bit complicated task therefore only go that route if required otherwise focus on practicing what you are learning on the VM you have.
